  2. Those who live abroad and whose final resident registration in Japan was in Akita Prefecture

Note

  • If you are registered as a resident outside of Akita Prefecture, please contact the police headquarters that has jurisdiction over your registered address.
  • Depending on the country of submission and the reason for issuance, we may not be able to accept your application immediately, so please contact us by phone in advance.

  • Hours: Weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. (Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and December 29th to January 3rd.)

  1. Passport (must be within expiration date, no copies)
  2. One of the following
  • Certificate of residence (issued within 6 months)
  • Issued by a government agency with your name and address on it

    Example: My number card, driver's license

Note 1: Issuance request form from the embassy, etc., completed visa application form, business trip order, employment contract, employment notice, admission letter, etc.

Note 2: Foreigners residing abroad may not be issued a residence card. In that case, please contact the Akita Prefectural Police Headquarters.

There is no fee.

Delivery of certificate

  • The application procedure takes about 30 minutes, and the certificate will be handed over in about a week.
    (We will contact you by phone when we are ready to hand over the certificate.)
  • The certificate should be handed over to the applicant.
  • If you are unable to receive it yourself, we will pass it on to a representative who has a power of attorney. If you would like a proxy, please let us know when you apply.
  • Delivery by mail is not possible.
  • If you open the certificate, it will become invalid, so please do not open it.
  • If you do not submit the certificate for some reason, please return it to the Identification Division of the Akita Prefectural Police Headquarters.

  • If the applicant currently resides in a foreign country, they can also apply at a Japanese embassy or consulate in that country.

However, it is not possible to apply twice in Japan after applying in a foreign country.
